The report examines the proportions of children, working-age adults and older people in India's population.
The age structure of India in 2024 comprised 24.2% of the population aged 0 to 14, 68.2% aged 15 to 64 and 7.1% aged 65 and above. The aging index was 29.5 people aged 65 and above per 100 people aged 0 to 14, while the potential support ratio was 9.5 working-age people per person aged 65 or above.
The number of people aged 65 and above reached 107,983,087 in 2025, changing by +20.0% over five years. In the common comparison year 2024, India ranked 121st of 217 economies by the share of the population aged 65 and above.
