The report examines the volume and composition of trademark filings in United Kingdom by applicant residence.
Resident trademark applications in United Kingdom reached 223,508 in 2021, compared with 227,170 nonresident applications. The resident-to-nonresident filing ratio was 0.98. Trademark activity was equivalent to 6485.8 applications per 1 million people and 122.27 applications per US$1 billion of GDP. The country registered 841,138 new businesses in 2024, corresponding to 0.54 trademark applications per newly registered business.
Based on comparable data for 2021, United Kingdom ranked 68th of 155 economies by the resident share of trademark filings.
