Australia Intellectual Property Activity: Patents, Trademarks and Industrial Designs

The analysis summarizes resident and nonresident filing activity across patents, trademarks and industrial designs.

Intellectual property applications in Australia in 2021 included 32,409 patent applications, 174,012 trademark applications and 8,120 industrial design applications. The largest category was trademarks, representing 81.1% of all included applications. Resident applicants accounted for 9.2% of patent filings, 55.9% of trademark filings and 31.8% of industrial design filings. Total included IP applications were equivalent to 7769.2 per 1 million people.
