The report examines mortality during the neonatal period, the first year of life and the first five years of life.
Under-five mortality in United Kingdom stood at 4.7 deaths per 1,000 live births in 2024, compared with an infant mortality rate of 4.1 and a neonatal mortality rate of 3.0. Neonatal mortality represented 73.2% of infant mortality.
The under-five mortality rate was 4.2 for girls and 5.2 for boys, a female-minus-male difference of -1.0 per 1,000 live births. The number of infant deaths was 2,835, and the number of under-five deaths was 3,213 in 2024. Over ten years, under-five mortality changed by +4.4%.
