The report examines domestic government, domestic private and out-of-pocket health financing in Botswana.
The health financing structure of Botswana in 2023 comprised 75.5% from domestic general government sources, 18.0% from domestic private sources and 6.5% from external sources. Out-of-pocket payments represented 23.7% of domestic private health expenditure. Current health expenditure was 6.3% of GDP, or $490 per capita in current US dollars.
In the common comparison year 2023, Botswana ranked 35th of 193 economies by the government share of current health expenditure.
