The report examines the volume and composition of patent filings in Belarus by applicant residence.
Resident patent applications in Belarus reached 276 in 2021, compared with 110 nonresident applications. The resident-to-nonresident application ratio was 2.51. Patent activity was equivalent to 42.5 applications per 1 million people. Research and development expenditure represented 0.59% of GDP in 2024, and the country had 1567.8 researchers per 1 million people in 2024.
Based on comparable data for 2021, Belarus ranked 47th of 155 economies by the resident share of patent filings.
