The report examines the volume and composition of trademark filings in Botswana by applicant residence.
Resident trademark applications in Botswana reached 663 in 2020, compared with 2,513 nonresident applications. The resident-to-nonresident filing ratio was 0.26. Trademark activity was equivalent to 1239.6 applications per 1 million people and 163.69 applications per US$1 billion of GDP. The country registered 21,456 new businesses in 2024, corresponding to 0.15 trademark applications per newly registered business.
Based on comparable data for 2020, Botswana ranked 110th of 155 economies by the resident share of trademark filings.
