Jamaica Patent Applications: Resident and Nonresident Filings

The report examines the volume and composition of patent filings in Jamaica by applicant residence.

Resident patent applications in Jamaica reached 16 in 2021, compared with 60 nonresident applications. The resident-to-nonresident application ratio was 0.27. Patent activity was equivalent to 26.8 applications per 1 million people. Research and development expenditure represented 0.06% of GDP in 2002.

Based on comparable data for 2021, Jamaica ranked 98th of 155 economies by the resident share of patent filings.
